I've been a runner for 8 years now, and have run several marathons. Recently, however, I began looking to shave at least 10 minutes off my current PR and run a 4 hr. marathon this year. I tend to get some type of injury every year while training, which is very frustrating. So I purchased this book in hopes of some helpful insight and a useful plan. Also, since it was written by a doctor, I guess I expected some medical spin on it, such as advice/tips or even types of supplements, herbals, etc. that could help, as well as how to treat/rehab certain running injuries. But there was none of that. I found the book to be somewhat written for total beginners, with a lot of tips and advice that anyone who's been running for several years (or ran any marathons at all) would most likely already know (and most of which is already out there on the webs for free). I might give one of the training plans a try to see if that will get me to the starting line uninjured next time. But not sure that this book will do as advertised "Finish Your Marathon inside 4 hours" (if it does I will definitely update my review!). That being said, there are some interesting points and advice regarding injuries, fueling, etc.. Although it seems like nothing is delved into in enough depth for me, but rather just glossed over. There are even some links to web sites mentioned and other books on Amazon that you are told to read. I would recommend this book to anyone just starting out who wants to run a marathon. But for someone with several of them under their belt, I doubt there would be much in here that you don't already know from experience.

I am an older runner. This book highlights many of the issues older runners have to deal with like longer recovery periods. Lots of great tips that I have not heard in other books.

This is a fantastic book packed full of "The good stuff". I have read a handful of ebooks regarding marathon training and this one finishes on top.
