Oh My Goodness -- Donna Hatch and the Amesbury brothers are totally addicting. I haven't been this wrapped up in a series since Stephanie Laurens and the Cynsters. I read the first book in the series, The Stranger She Married, and immediately bought the remaining books. The second oldest Amesbury brother, Jared, is the hero in this book. You love him from first to last - and -- you better have a full box of tissues for the last few chapters because you will need all of them. Jared is the perfect irreverent foil to Elise. He brings out a whole different side of her. Jared is the most honorable man you'll meet - but he's between a rock and a hard place. He is an agent of the crown and has had to do some bad things because of that - and he's on his last mission. However, his past is catching up with him and threatening those he loves.Elise thinks she's a happy widow and has absolutely no intention of ever remarrying because she thinks she could never find another man to equal her first husband. However, Jared makes her wonder if she was quite as happy in that marriage as she thought she was. She's pretty repressed -- very prim and proper. The way she and Jared meet shows you she has a bit of a non-conformist in her, but she keeps it pretty well restrained. You love her from beginning to end as well.I had a couple of issues with the book (series) -- and you'll notice from my unusual 5-star rating that they didn't really bother me. First -- The oldest brother (Cole - from book one) is an earl and as such I would have thought that the brothers would have been referred to as Lord Jared, etc. rather than Mr. Amesbury and that the wives and sisters would be Lady xxxxx. Second -- the secret service folks refusing to help when Jared was about to be hanged. I can understand that they would not publicly acknowledge him, but why wouldn't they do anything behind the scenes to prevent the hanging. I didn't like that part at all!!! Thus -- the need for the tissues.I love how the Amesbury brothers always come together to help each other even though they think they are not close. They protect and save each other all the time. So, now it is on to the next book -- A Perfect Secret -- featuring perfectly, perfect Christian Amesbury. That is how the brothers always refer to him and I'm sure we'll learn why in this next book.

I just read this book for the second time - and just enjoyed it for the second time! It has SO many great elements to it!! First of all there is wonderful romantic chemistry between Elise and Jared - right from the beginning. Awesome Regency Era setting. The story is really engaging and the ending very satisfying. It is a clean romance with fun banter and touching emotional moments. I highly recommend this and all the other books in this series about the gorgeous Amesbury brothers!

Ah, the Amesbury brothers. They are each lovable in their own way and make great romance heroes. This is story features Jared and Elise. Jared is the second son who has lived the past three years as a pirate. There is a reason he was a pirate that makes sense as you read the book. He is a "noble" pirate of noble birth.Elise is a widow who plans for her status to remain unchanged. She has an adorable son and is a devoted mother. Her life is turned upside down when Jared enters her social scene. He shows her that there is more life to be lead and the wonders of romance.I loved the characters. They are good people with hopes and dreams. There path to finding happiness is rocky and there is some suspense. It makes for a fun and engaging book to read.

ThDonna Hatch The Guise of a Gentleman ( Rogue Hearts series) Book2 tells the story of Jared, the former pirate, so the rummers state and Elise, his new friend, a widow with a oyoung son. This Rogue Heart Series is about the Amesbury Family. The siblings are Lord Cole Amesbury (book 1), Jared (book 2) Christian Amesbury and 4Grant(book 4) and their sisters Margaret and Rachel make appearances an d will most likely be in future bboksl. The first four books feature each brother and their future brides. Each is a regency romance fiction. Each story is uniquely different from the others and all are well written with interesting settings and characters that are developed. The romance is clean, but should be considered PG rated. I have enjoyed this series and the books could be read alone except for the fact of getting hooked on each of them!

Wow, Hatch surpassed my expectations in this one! And she has found a new fan in me! If you are looking for a clean read, regency romance with shades of humor, action and suspense then look no further! This is a page turner, that will touch you on several different levels. The romance was sweet but thrilling, the characters very engaging, there was humor and even a time that brought me to tears. I love it when a book can take me by surprise! I cannot wait for Book 3, and I am hoping there is a Book 4 in the works for Grant (the remaining brother).

The first in this series was awesome. I went from reading her novellas, to these very long novels. The novellas too short and these a little longer than my preference. But Donna is a very good author. Her stories have great plots so far. The only reason this didn't merit 5 stars is because to me it was overridden in the first 1/2 or more with the constant descriptions of their attraction or desires for each other. Don't get me wrong, the book is clean, but everytime they were around each other the author felt the need to again mention how one was more beautiful or handsome than the time before, and the constant desire to be kissing each other. Etc. I felt like it detracted from the plot and made the book longer than needed. A little romance etc is great in The plot, but The attraction between the two could easily be established without the need to constantly at each meeting tell us again how they desired each other. The plot in this story was very inventive and a fun adventure to read. Focusing on the plot for the whole story would have given the book a 5 star rating. The last 1/2 - 1/3 was great in just focusing on the plot.It was worth the read.
