Thanks for this story. Having experienced postpartum depression I can identify with September. And knowing a HEA followed makes it a great romance
A suspenseful romance, one that grabs the reader's attention from the opening pages, this book deals with so much more than hiding out and betrayal. When Adam reads the note from September begging him to take care of her baby, even though he knows that it is not his child, he instinctively knows that September is in more trouble than he could have imagined. September is facing difficulties that most mothers have faced to some degree in their lives and every one of us can identify with sleep deprivation and trying to keep all the balls in the air after giving birth to a small baby. Her methods may not resonate with most women, but she certainly did ensure the safety of her child. More than the kiss Adam shared with September over a year before, he regrets the way in which he terminated their relationship, leaving brokenness and hurt feelings in his wake. In holding baby Harmony in his arms, he realises that he has his second chance, but before he can actually follow up on that line of thought, he first has to determine the risks she is facing and eliminate the danger that is stalking her. The plot is well thought out, giving hope to women going through the same circumstances as September, and it is well written. The romance is clean and sweet and the hero is one of the best kind of men. One can only cheer September on as she takes hold of her own life and makes the decision to confront the wrongs of the past, setting aside her own fear for the sake of a future with both Harmony and Adam. The story is a standalone and comes to a sweet and joyful close. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
This is something of a romance but has a lot more than a romance in it. It deals with postpartum depression as a main thread of the story and abuse as well. In this story September is abused by two different people to my way of thinking. The ex-boyfriend is maybe more obvious but the agent is also abusive in her controlling behavior.I have never experienced PPD though I have depression issues so while I can't really say if PPD plays out like this book shows or not, some of the descriptions fit exactly how I have experienced depression so I felt like it was likely accurate.I loved the Hastings family. They are good people. And Adam was great. He took to "fathering" very well. And it felt real that he would be a safe place for September. She trusts him and his family already. Maybe a little weird that she just left the baby without being face to face but in her state of mind maybe that was the only way she could deal with it.Best line of the book is after Adam leads Sven on a wild goose chase just to keep him from September. Sven asks, "Having fun yet?"Adam: "Depends on what you think of as fun. If you mean leading a bodyguard who is more brawn than brain halfway across the state for no reason other than my amusement, then I'm having fun. And you?"My biggest problem with this book was the title. It almost kept me from reading the book but I'd read other things by this author so I went ahead with it. The title made the book sound like it was going to be sleazy. It wasn't at all. Maybe that is just my interpretation and no one else even thought of it.Sex: Basis of the book is that lead had out of wedlock baby prior to chapter one but there is no sex in the book.Language: some crass remarks from the jerk-guy.Violence: Flashback to major assault/attempted murder. Bad guy is verbally and physically abusive. Was physically and emotionally abusive prior to chapter one. Violence against woman.
Good book! I like that the author chooses to tackle some tough issues in her books, by including them in the context of her stories. Her characters seem very real and their problems are often relatable by either myself, people I know, or friends of friends. The issues she incorporates are often considered the hush-hush topics in society and aren’t commonly brought up in public or with anyone but family and close friends because of the possible stigmas attached or embarrassment in bringing it out in the open. I love that she brings these issues to the forefront in her stories and presents them in such a touching way, showing the stories and hearts of people who are impacted by these issues. I also enjoyed getting to know more of the peripheral characters from her previous books in a deeper way as they came to life as stars of their own stories rather than just supporting casts for others.
The suspense and romance in this story make for a book you will not be able to put down. Lorin Grace wove a beautiful story of hope following postpartum depression. The main character, September is such a brave, strong woman who has been through so much and with help from a clinic she is able to see the light at the end of the tunnel. How hard it must be for people in the public eye to suffer from postpartum depression. The final pages of the touching story will put a warm smile on your face. There is a sexy, confident leading man too and it is fun to watch him with baby, Harmony. You have to love the men from Hasting's Security and the Hasting's family. I cannot wait to read more books in this series! I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
Adam and September have a past and possibly a future. Will a baby keep them apart or bring them together? Postpartum depression is a sensitive issue and one I have experienced. This helped me better under the story and feel what was happening. The author did a great job in my opinion handling this topic. Past mistakes/sins were addressed and forgiveness extended. There was an element of suspense involving the ex that kept me glued to my kindle. A really good start to this series.
